The supermarket said it wll be the "largest ever" budget-friendly range

Asda supermarket has said its new 'Just Essentials range' will be the "largest ever budget-friendly range" to help shoppers combat rising costs. The new range will span across fresh meat, fish and poultry, bakery, frozen and cupboard staples. Household items such as washing up liquid, toilet roll, shampoo and conditioner are also included.

Most of the products will be shoppable by August 13, but some will land in stores by the end of the year. The supermarket said the range, which is 50 per cent wider than its predecessor, would ensure families could access nutritious food no matter their budgets.

However, Asda may find it difficult to remain competitive given the value ranges from other supermarkets such as Tesco and Aldi are often cheaper. Asda also faced some backlash for the Just Essentials range - with some shoppers saying the bright packing 'embarasses poor families' by drawing attention to the fact they are buying a cheaper item.

Nonetheless, while a Sunday Roast might be out of the question for some, Asda had made it one step easier. A notable addition to the Just Essentials range is the £13.56 Beef Roast Dinner Bundle which includes a Beef Roasting Joint, 15 Yorkshire Puddings (Yes, fifteen!), White Potatoes and Green Beans.
