Frozen food company McCain has just released its latest crunchy product, the McCain Crisper, and it is soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside.

The new product, which launched at #CrispersComedyClub at Sandton's Hard Rock Café on Wednesday, can be served with a topping, or dipped or scooped in a sauce of your choice.

Recognisable by their v-shape – which is unusual for a potato chip – the crispers are said to maintain their shape even after cooking, all thanks to the crunchy outer layer.

"Crispers are McCain's innovative and patented v-cut style chips that are set to reinvent the category and make the humble potato the main event in any entertainment situation," said Foodservice and Retail Marketing Manager at McCain Catharina Bester.

"This cut really delivers a crispy bite every time and the product holds shape and texture brilliantly, due to the clear coating, ensuring the end result is always crispy and delicious. The skin is left on for a rustic feel and the ridges create extra fun. The most fun you will have with a potato," Bester added.

With pandemic regulations easing up, Crispers were crafted as a way to bring friends and family together.

"It's been a rush getting back on stage and eating and sharing moments together with real people after a globally forced hiatus for the past two years, said comedian and MC at the event Donovan Goliath.

Asked to describe what he thinks about the new offering, Goliath said, "Wedges can be polarising. You know when you drive a wedge … Crispers, however, are inclusive; everyone loves them - market research says so (even teens gave them the thumbs up)."

According to the company, understanding modern family life and bringing nutritious and delicious products to the country is at the heart of McCain, and what better way to do so than with fresh innovation.

"We are thrilled once again to be the conduit for friends and families connecting and sharing special moments together over great tasting food, and the good times of South African memory-making opportunities," Bester added.
