Officials at The Wisner Senior Center are in need of help, namely food donations to replenish their pantry.
According to staff at the center in downtown Wisner, the once robust pantry stockpile of food – which had enough supplies for an estimated 5,000 meals as of the first week of January 2022 – is now down to food for only 300 meals.
The center is in need of donations of non-perishable foods, frozen goods and other items such as bread, milk, fruit and meats. If you would like to donate to the food pantry, give manager Kay Breitkreutz a call at 402-529-3252.
The senior center menus for July 14 - July 21 are as follows.
Friday: teriyaki chicken, baked potato, green bean casserole, cucumber onion salad, Mandarin oranges, bread and milk.
Monday: salmon patties, oven fried potatoes, creamed corn, mixed berries, fruit bread and milk.
Tuesday: lunch, chicken salad on croissant, pea salad, melons and sweet potato fries. Dinner is roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted carrots and onions, frog eyed salad, dinner roll and milk.
Wednesday: beef Stroganoff, scalloped potatoes, roasted asparagus, mixed fruit, muffin and milk.
Thursday: honey glazed chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed peas, macaroni salad, bread and milk.
Exercises are hosted every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Coffee Hour
is from 9 - 11 a.m. and at 3 p.m.
Cards are a big part of the center fun. Sheepshead is played Mondays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Cribbage is played Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Pitch is played Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 1 p.m. and the second and fourth Sundays of each month at 6 p.m. Five Crowns or King’s Corner is played on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. Bingo is played on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m.
The Wisner Center food pantry is available to anyone in need of some extra food items. Meals are available in the center or to be taken to-go.
